The Green MEP, Carl Schlyter, asked for a “blue card intervention” at the end of Mr Griffin’s speech on
proposals to fit speed limiters on light commercial vans. Such an intervention is a mechanism for an
immediate response to a speech, usually made by an opponent to supposedly correct a fact or debate an urgent point.
Mr Schlyter argued that the recent record cold winter has only been in part of Europe and North America.
He also pointed out that at the time of the ‘global warming’ conferences in Copenhagen and Cancun, it had been
record cold in both those areas as well.
“A couple of years ago we were told that our children would not know what snow was,” Mr Griffin said.
“What an absolute nonsense this has been. As for the statistics showing a global trend, the key factor everyone
is ignoring is that 65 percent of the world’s weather stations are within in 10 meters of an artificial heat
source.
“The collapse in the Soviet Union resulted in the closing of weather stations in cold weather places which have skewed the figures,” Mr Griffin said.
“Then there is the car park beneath us. Porsches, Mercs, BMWs, SUVs — a show-room of gas-guzzling luxury for the
people who tut-tut in disapproval at men in white vans and plot to make their working lives even harder with
speed limiters and financial penalties.
“And all for a dogma based on discredited statistics, peddled by a clique of bought-and-paid-for academics
funded and hyped by super-rich vested interests in the green-industrial complex — Al Gore, Prince Charles,
Shell and Goldman Sachs — all of whom stand to steal a fortune from the taxes harvested through wind factory
subsidies and carbon trading.
