MEP Helps Forgotten Fire Victim

Tue, 08/03/2011

After a house fire in Burnley on 26th February, a young mother of three children was left with no possessions, no clothes for the children, no electricity and a home left blackened from burning and smoke damage and soaking wet from the fire hoses.

It took Burnley Council a week to send someone out just to board up the windows, which had been blown out by the heat as the fire took hold, and at present there has been no help from the "caring authorities".

Councillor Clive Jefferson and Jennifer Matthys were in Burnley on behalf of Nick Griffin MEP when they were informed of the situation of the young family.

"Seeing the plight of the mother and her three children was truly shocking," said Councillor Jefferson, who is also Nick's Campaigns Manager.

"I rang Nick immediately, and he gave me the authority to see the young family temporarily housed and to give the mother £250 from his English Fair Fund to get emergency supplies for the children."

The next day, Jen Matthys, the British National Party's Manager and the MEP's daughter, contacted Sharon Wilkinson, a Lancashire County Councillor and leader of the BNP group on Burnley Council, to take up the case.
Sharon sprang instantly into action. She knows how to get things done, whom to contact and is a very efficient and dedicated councillor.

She was shocked at the appalling treatment of this young family and is now working hard to provide the service that the victims of such an unfortunate incident should receive.

The young mother, whom I will not name in this report, was astonished to finally find "someone who cares".
