WITH their usual brazen hypocrisy, the leaders of the European Union have been wailing about the democratic crisis in Iran.
Like the mullahs of Iran, the eurocrats simply ignore election results which do not suit them.
After a summit in Portugal, they just changed the name of their scheme to the Treaty of Lisbon, though it was virtually the same document as the Constitution. The Lisbon Treaty was then ratified by almost all the 26 member states without any referenda, even in Britain, where Labour broke its pledge to give the public a vote.
In Ireland, however, the government was legally bound to hold a referendum. Last year, by a significant majority,
the people of Ireland rejected the Lisbon Treaty. Yet again, the Euro-zealots refused to abide by the outcome.
Instead, after another round of EU talks last week, Ireland has been ordered to keep on voting until the despots of
Brussels get the result they want. It is now expected that a second Irish referendum will take place in October.
Without a shred of legitimacy, the drive towards a United States of Europe is relentless. The only way any country can regain its independence is by leaving the EU. Renegotiations, opt-outs and protocols are all useless in the face of this sinister bureaucracy bent on absolute control.
The desire to destroy our traditional nationhood through the promotion of mass immigration, multicultural diversity and surrender to the EU has been a key theme of this Government ever since 1997.
The same impulse also explains why Lord Mandelson, Euro-fanatic and former Brussels commissioner, has been so desperate to keep Brown in power, even though he and the Prime Minister have been bitter enemies for more than a decade.
Mandelson feared that if Brown was forced out in a coup by the Cabinet, then a new Labour leader would quickly have
to call a general election.
Only last week, it emerged that Neil and Glenys Kinnock have made over £10million from exploiting the EU. Blair,
with the cash-fixated Cherie at his side, will do even better.
But the elite’s enthusiasm for the EU is motivated by more than just self-interest. The real driving force is the
eurocrats’ instinctive loathing for any notion of patriotism.
