Harriet And Her Scary New Order
Never has a piece of legislation been more badly misnamed than the so-called “Equalities” Bill, introduced in
Parliament by Labour’s Deputy Leader Harriet Harman.
The “Equalities” Bill is something straight out of George Orwell’s novel 1984.
In its politically correct dogma, the Equalities Bill is a key part of her campaign to appeal to Labour’s left.
Harman might lack intellectual competence but she has the classic politician’s gift for dissembling.
Introducing her Bill, she said: “we will let employers have the right to choose to diversify their team with positive action.”
In a new climate of fear all too reminiscent of communist East Germany, firms deemed to be insufficiently enthusiastic about Labour’s ideology will have to undergo heavy-handed inspections.
“We will shine a spotlight in every workplace,” said Harman, in unmistakable tones of socialist menace.
It is a rich irony that Labour spent years wailing at the iniquities of apartheid South Africa yet Harman’s new Britain will be the most racially obsessed country in the Western world, with the Government defining citizens by the colour of their skin.
The civil service and local government will be brimming with equality zealots thrilled at the opportunity to throw
their weight around.
One of the most alarming weapons in their arsenal will be “contract compliance”, whereby any firms bidding for work
in the public sector will have to prove their diversity credentials.
Thanks to Harman, it is to become a key part of the governance of Britain. Meanwhile, “contract compliance” represents an enormous power, since £175billion is spent every year by the public sector on goods and services provided by private contractors.
The most disturbing element of this legislation, though, is the plan to push employers to discriminate against white men. This might be dressed up as “positive action” for women and minorities but it is idiotic and unjust.
The idea that we need racial and gender balance in every field is absurd.
The answer is that real fairness is an irrelevance for Labour. This Bill, just like the promotion of mass
immigration, is part of the Government’s ideologically bigoted drive to transform society.
Tradition, masculinity, social cohesion, heritage and patriotism are all sources of shame in Labour’s brave new world.
Only under socialism would oppressive bureaucracy and an attack on half the indigenous population be presented as
badges of progress. The end of this wretched regime cannot come soon enough.
