Mr Cameron added: ‘I also believe the accession process itself is a catalyst for change. I will continue to
champion Turkey's accession.’
Change is right. Turkey has an estimated population of 77 million and is 99 per cent Muslim. If admitted to
the EU, it will become the Union’s first majority-Muslim member state, which will open the door for millions
of Muslims to sweep across Western Europe and ultimately into Britain.
Turkey’s relaxed visa restrictions for several Middle Eastern countries, including Syria and Libya, mean vast swathes of the Middle East will have legal and visa-free access to Europe, and to Britain’s welfare system in particular, once the LibLabConmen get their suicidal wish.
But there are more than just demographic reasons to be concerned about Turkey’s accession.
Since 1974, Turkey has been illegally occupying Northern Cyprus by force of arms, in direct contravention of
UN Security Council resolutions.
The European Police Office (Europol) has warned that Turkey is the ‘most important transit’ for hard drugs into Europe and is responsible for 75 per cent of all detections of illegal border-crossings into the EU.
In an August 2010 report submitted to the EU’s Standing Committee on Operational Cooperation on Internal Security (COSI), Europol warned that illicit commodities from Turkey enter the EU via the Balkan Route, including illegal migrants and victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, cannabis products, heroin, cocaine, cigarettes, synthetic drugs and precursors, counterfeit Euros and firearms.’
Last year’s Wikileaks cables offer more reasons for concern.
According to one US document, an adviser to the ruling AK Party remarked that Turkey wanted ‘to take back
Andalusia and avenge the defeat at the siege of Vienna in 1683’.
US diplomats also wrote that many leading figures in the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) were members of a Muslim fraternity and that Prime Minister Erdogan had appointed Islamist bankers to influential positions. He gets his information almost exclusively from newspapers with close links to Islamists, they reported.
Erdogan is of course infamous for reading a jihadist poem that revealed his true feelings about Islamifying Europe, containing the lines, ‘The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers.’
He can now add another line: ‘The Western politicians are our dhimmis.’
